Thank you to everyone who donated to the raffle, we raised $1043 and with our generous donor matching the sum raised our final total is $2086.
The proceeds of this raffle will go toward chopping and delivering firewood to Diné families and Elders in Northern Arizona. Andy Dann, a Diné Elder, craftsman, silversmith, and humanitarian, leads this work with the help of his extended family. His friend Hilary Giovale and I are collaborating to raise funds in support of Andy's essential work.
A history of oppression by the United States government, as well as ongoing settler colonialism, make for a complex set of circumstances in Andy's community. Traditional Diné lifeways, economies and governance were interrupted. Many in Andy's community are now Elders who live alone in remote areas without running water or electricity. In most homes, firewood is the only heat source. It is important to ensure that the Elders have enough firewood as winter continues.
